I think Iโve figured out the root cause of most problems, and itโs probably not what youโd expect. But if you think about it, it makes perfect sense. The answer is imbalance.
Everything in life comes in pairs. Opposites exist in everything: up and down, black and white, happy and sad, love and hate, peace and war. Itโs a universal truth. The only thing without an opposite is eternal lifeโbecause if there were eternal death, there would have to be life at some point, right? If that werenโt true, you wouldnโt be reading this post right now.
So, if opposites naturally exist, then the key to a smooth, harmonious life must be balanceโthe middle ground between excess and deficiency. And when balance is missing, problems arise. This is because life wants to achieve balance. It seeks harmony. We can observe this in the animal kingdom, for example. Too many lions and not enough sources of food create an imbalance that inevitably leads to starvation. But once balance is restored, harmony returns. Before humans interfered, nature always maintained its own equilibrium. Too much of one thing was always correctedโbecause nature wouldnโt allow it any other way.
Imbalance in Our Lives
Take something as simple as food and exercise. If we eat excessively and never move our bodies, we gain weight and become unhealthy. If we exercise excessively and donโt eat enough, we become weak and frail. But if we eat in moderation and exercise regularly, we achieve balanceโand as a result, we feel healthier, stronger, and generally happier.
Now, letโs take a look at something much biggerโclimate change. How did we get here? Once again, imbalance. We take more from the planet than we give back. Deforestation, exploitation, and the sheer disregard for nature have thrown the system out of sync.
And how do we fix it? By restoring balance. Planting trees to replace the ones we cut down, using resources responsibly, and treating the environment with the respect it deserves. Itโs not about extreme measuresโitโs about finding that middle ground where humanity and nature can coexist in harmony. Just as it did in the animal kingdom, well before man cam along.
Can Too Much of a Good Thing Be Bad?
But what about the things we consider positiveโlike love, kindness, and protection? Surely, you canโt have too much of those, right?
Actually, you can. If we were too loving, caring, and protective, we wouldnโt be able to function as humans. Imagine loving everything unconditionally, to the point where you couldnโt bear to harm a single living thingโnot even to eat. That would make survival impossible.
The same applies to being overprotective. If we shelter ourselves or others from every risk, we never grow, never experience the thrill of adventure, and never truly live. Life itself is a balance of risk and safety, of pain and joy, of holding on and letting go.
The Role of Perspective in Balance
Having imbalance is a perfectly normal thing in life. We can’t always have balance in everything we do. However, a persistent imbalance will ultimately cause problems, and the longer the imbalance occurs, the bigger the repercussions. So, it’s definitely not something that should be left unchecked or ignored. And always remember this: if you try to live a harmonious life, a harmonious life it shall be. Harmony, or equilibrium, is what it’s all about, and this is the key to everything.
How Nature Shows Us Balance in Cycles
Nature is very clever. It understands the importance of balance more than anyone because without it, its own existence would be in jeopardy. And while our planet rotates on an axis around the sun to bring us the four seasons, it’s found a way to make it work so all its inhabitants can live in harmony. For example, it’s never too hot for too long, and it’s never too cold for too long either (so, it’s balanced). And while the cold may cause death for some in the winter, life is back in full bloom by the summer. And it’s all balanced again.
Embracing the Uncomfortable Middle
While the middle ground may feel ‘boring’ to some people, others might argue and say it’s not. But regardless of your point of view, there’s nothing wrong about being extreme with your actions. It’s knowing when to ease backโthat’s the problem. Whether we like an uncomfortable middle or not, it’s going to find us eventually, especially for anyone who thinks they can get away with living at an extreme. So, have fun, take risks, push boundaries if you mustโbut remember, if you take too much and offer none of it back, it will become a debt that you will need to repay somehow, eventually. Always look for ways to balance your actions and you’ll be fineโthere’s no need to always ‘sit on the fence’.
Finding Balance in Your Own Life
Now, take a moment to reflect on your own life. What areas feel out of sync? Is there something you have too much ofโtoo much work, too much stress, too much consumption? Or maybe thereโs something lackingโtoo little rest, too little connection, too little joy?
If imbalance is the root of problems, then restoring balance could be the solution. Think about one aspect of your life that feels excessive or deficient. What small change could you make to bring it closer to equilibrium?
Balance is where contentment lives. Itโs where peace exists. And isnโt that what weโre all searching for?
For instance, if youโre overworked, could you set boundaries to reclaim your time? If youโre feeling disconnected, could you reach out and reconnect with loved ones? If youโre consuming too muchโwhether food, social media, or material possessionsโwhat steps could you take to moderate and simplify?
The goal isnโt perfectionโitโs awareness. By recognising and adjusting these imbalances, you may find that many of the challenges you face start to fade.
When Balance Feels Out of Reach
But what if you try to find balance and nothing seems to work? What if, despite your best efforts, equilibrium remains elusive? The truth is, restoring balance takes time. Problems donโt appear overnight, and neither does balance. Quick adjustments donโt always lead to quick rewards.
Think about itโmany of the imbalances we face took weeks, months, or even years to develop. So why should we expect to fix them instantly? The key is to keep trying. This isnโt a race, and itโs not about perfection. Itโs about persistence. Every small effort you make to restore balance is a step in the right direction.
And hereโs the good newsโnature isnโt fighting you on this. In fact, all the laws of existence are working for you. Life itself wants balance. It thrives on harmony. So, trust the process, have patience, and keep making adjustments. Eventually, youโll find your equilibrium, and with it, a greater sense of peace.

The Power of Balance
Every action has a trade-off. But what if our actions were perfectly balanced? What if we found the sweet spotโnot too much, not too littleโjust enough? In that space, problems donโt arise because thereโs no excess pushing things out of alignment.
Balance is where contentment lives. Itโs where peace exists. And isnโt that what weโre all searching for?
So, maybe the secret to a better life isnโt about extremes. Maybe itโs about finding that middle groundโthe place where everything feels just right.
